China to launch small communication satellites for commercial use for the first time

China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) announced a customized new system of small communication satellites for overseas users, on the sidelines of Airshow China 2018 held from November 6 to 11 in Zhuhai City. The system is based on the DFH-4F SMALL GEO Platform, which enables high-speed Internet services for overseas users in remote areas. This is the first time that China will launch small communication satellites for commercial use, which have an operation life of 15 years, roughly the same as other medium or large-sized communication satellites. However, it's more cost-efficient than large ones, and takes a shorter time to develop.

President Xi Jinping promotes wider international collaboration in outer space

Chinese President Xi Jinping said on 14 November the international community should strengthen cooperation in outer space on the basis of equality, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness. He made the remarks in a congratulatory letter to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) in Beijing. "China has consistently advocated the rational exploitation and utilization of space resources, space environment protection, and hopes the space industry could bring more benefits to mankind," he stressed.

SAR remote sensing experiment site unveiled in northern China

A synthetic aperture radar (SAR) remote sensing experiment site was unveiled in Zhangjiakou, northern China's Hebei Province. The experiment site, covering an area of 46,000 square meters, has a comprehensive remote sensing experiment center and a remote sensing information center. Operated jointly by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the city of Zhangjiakou, the experiment site is a platform to conduct remote sensing technology research and push forward the transformation of innovation achievements.
