China launches remote sensing to monitor operation of FAST telescope

Southwest China's Guizhou Province has used remote sensing to monitor the operation of China's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), the world's largest single-dish radio telescope. The provincial natural resources department said that remote sensing has been launched in the radio-quiet zone, to ensure the operation of FAST will not be affected by the electromagnetic environment.

China, Brazil to launch new Earth resource satellite next year

The sixth satellite jointly built by China and Brazil is scheduled to be launched next year, said space authorities from the two countries.
The Earth-observation satellite - designated CBERS-04A - will operate in a sun-synchronous orbit, always facing the sun 628 kilometers above the Earth's surface. Its cameras will photograph the ground, the China National Space Administration said in a statement. The satellite will be able to produce pictures covering 90 km, with high resolution. It will be capable of transmitting images to ground control in real time, the statement said.

China expands use of BeiDou navigation system in transportation

China will expand the application of its home-grown BeiDou navigation system to cover all transportation fields, according to an official from the Ministry of Transport (MOT). Over the past few years, over 6.17 million domestic vehicles nationwide and 35,000 vehicles of postal services or courier companies have installed or become compatible with the BeiDou navigation system, according to MOT spokesperson Wu Chungeng. The navigation system has also been installed in 80,000 buses, 370 ships and the country's domestically-manufactured commercial airplanes.

China validates key technologies in large spacecraft recovery

China has validated multiple key technologies in large spacecraft recovery, extending the recovery weight to more than seven tonnes, said the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) on 23 November. Chinese scientists have conducted tests of multiple key technologies in the manned space flight field, including the country's first airdrop tests of the large group parachute system and heavy landing buffer system, said CAST under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC).
