China successfully tests recovering 7-tonne spacecraft

Chinese researchers have successfully tested two major systems in recovering large spacecraft of more than 7 tons. The breakthrough improves China's capability to reach the world leading level. In the past, China's Shenzhou spacecrafts were around 3.5 tons and the recovery system included a single main parachute system and a back propulsion engine that could only be used once. Now, researchers from China Academy of Space Technology used a helicopter to drop the 7-ton model in testing the country's large parachute group system and heavy load landing buffer system (airbag system).

China's tracking ship Yuanwang 7 on monitoring missions

Chinese space tracking ship the Yuanwang 7 departed on 26 November to carry out maritime space monitoring and communication missions. It is the third time that the ship is carrying out monitoring mission on the sea this year.

Chinese company unveils first satellite for free, global WiFi

A Chinese internet technology company LinkSure Network, founded in Shanghai in 2013 unveiled the first satellite in a constellation plan to provide free WiFi service worldwide, following international tech giants into the field. LinkSure Network is a global innovative mobile internet company specializing in free internet access, content and location-based services. The first satellite will be launched from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center next year, and by 2020 there will be 10 satellites in space. The constellation will have 272 satellites by 2026.

Big Earth data launched at digital Belt and Road conference

A Digital Belt and Road big Earth data platform was launched at the on-going 3rd Conference of Digital Belt and Road held in Tengchong, Southwest China's Yunnan Province. As an A-class strategic high-tech research project initiated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2016, the cloud service platform aims to establish an open international center for big Earth data.
