China launched space experiment satellites Shiyan-20A and Shiyan-20B

12 December 2022
On 12 December at 16:22 BJT, a Long March-4C rocket took off from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre and placed Shiyan-20A and Shiyan-20B satellites into their preset orbit. The two Shiyan-20 satellites will be used for in-orbit verification of new technologies such as space environment monitoring.

Chang'e 5 samples suggest exploitable water resources on the Moon

13 December 2022
By studying lunar samples retrieved by the Chang'e 5 mission, Chinese scientists found that lunar soil grains retain more solar wind-implanted water at the middle latitude region than previously thought. Based on this finding, the scientists predict that there is a large amount of water resources available for utilization at the high latitude region of the Moon.

ASO-S (Kuafu 1) images of the Sun released

14 December 2022
China released on Tuesday the first batch of scientific images captured by the country's Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory (ASO-S,) also known as Kuafu 1, a satellite specially designed to carry out comprehensive probes of the Sun. These are scientific observatory images of the Sun obtained by the three payloads carried by the satellite while operating in orbit for two months, realizing multiple firsts at home and abroad and verifying the observation capability and advanced nature of the three payloads in orbit.

Astronomical photographer documents CSS assembly phases

13 December 2022
Stargazer, doctor of astrophysics, promoter of astronomy and vlogger Liu Boyang captured the development of the space station assembly with a series of ground-based photography. For that, he developed an optical tracking program himself. With that, Liu was able to capture clear, close-up images of China's space station. He has made over 50 trips to carefully selected locations in more than 10 cities across China, largely at his own expense. He waits patiently for the few minutes when the space station zips across the night sky to get the best possible shot.
