Earth Return for China Station Crew; Recovery Crews Face Bitter Cold Conditions at Landing Site

Leonard David describes on his webportal "Inside Outer Space" the harsh and super-cold conditions of minus 25 degrees Celsius at the Gobi Desert landing site, the ground recovery teams for the SZ-14 mission will have to face on 4 December. A final all-system, comprehensive recovery drill for the SZ-14 mission was carried out in the night of 1 December at the Dongfeng landing site in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. A dozen search and rescue teams, 5 helicopters and more than 60 vehicles set out to their designated areas from the rendezvous point.

Tiangong space station enters new phase of application and development

"China plans to build the space station into a state-level space lab supporting long astronaut stays and large-scale scientific, technological, and application experiments," said Zhou Jianping, Chief Designer of China's manned space programme. With that the Tiangong space station will get busier exploring space science and technology in the following years, as the newly launched Shenzhou-15 mission wraps up the last stage of its construction and kicks off the first stage of its application and development.

Gaofen 5-01A launched from Taiyuan

Gaofen 5-01A, was launched on 9 December at 02:31 BJT aboard a CZ-2D rocket from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre and entered its planned 705 km orbit successfully. Gaofen 5-01A is a hyperspectral satellite that will be used for remote sensing and applications in diverse fields, such as pollution reduction, environmental monitoring, natural resource surveys, and climate change studies. The satellite will help improve the country's hyperspectral observation capacity in areas such as environmental protection, land, weather, agriculture, and disaster alleviation.

CALT's Smart Dragon 3 rocket lifts 14 satellites during premier flight

CALT launched a Smart Dragon 3 rocket from the Yellow Sea on 09 December, placing 14 satellites into the planned orbit.
The commercial rocket blasted off at 14:35 h BJT. The Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre conducted the offshore launch mission.

According to its developer, the new solid-propellant spacecraft has not only provided more capacity options for commercial launches but also advanced the country's development of this type of rocket to a new level.
