New images from Zhurong rover released

09 July 2021
As of 08 July, Zhurong has been working on the Martian surface for 54 Martian days and has travelled more than 300 m, according to CNSA's Lunar Exploration and Space Programme Centre. Since the rover landed on the surface of Mars, it has been travelling southward to carry out inspection and exploration.

A new group of Zhongzi-02 satellite launched

On 9 July at 19:59 BJT, a new group of Zhongzi-02 satellites was sent by a CZ-6 into its preset orbit from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in north China's Shanxi Province.

Qi Faren - A portrait

Qi Faren, Chief Designer of China’s Shenzhou spacecraft has been involved in the nation's space activities from the very early beginnings. He was part of the team developing China’s first guided missile Dongfeng-1, and contributed to the design of the first man-made satellite Dongfanghong-1 (DFH-1), DFH-2 relay satellite, and DFH-3 second-generation communications satellite as an important Technical Director. People's Daily is portraying this renowned space expert.

The 1st batch of 'space rice' has begun yielding grain

11 July 2021
Rice seeds that travelled 23 days in space on the Chang'e 5 lunar probe in November 2020 have begun yielding grain. After over 4 months of growth, the dropping ears of the 2,000 "space rice plants" at the Space Breeding Research Centre of the South China Agricultural University in South China's Guangdong Province promise a fruitful harvest, as researchers bagged the seeds that are each 1 cm long into 3 large parcels. The best seeds will be bred in laboratories and later planted in fields. Before the rice can be sold to consumers, more generations of breeding and testing is needed.
