Robotic arm on the CSS

06 July 2021
The mechanical arm installed on China's space station core module Tianhe has played an important role in assisting the astronauts with their extravehicular activities on 4 July. The mechanical arm is designed to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the space station in orbit, to help the astronauts in EVAs, such as the assembly, construction, maintenance, and repair of the space station, and support space applications. With a design life of 15 years, load capacity of 25 tonnes, and tip positioning accuracy of 45 millimeters, the mechanical arm installed on the Tianhe module can realize long-range, large-load operations and small-range, detailed operations.

Tianlian 1-05 relay satellite launched

06 July 2021
A Long March-3C successfully launched the new Tianlian 1-05 relay satellite from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in southwest China's Sichuan Province at 23:53 h BJT into GEO. The satellite is the 5th and last member of the Tianlian 1 fleet, China’s first-generation data relay spacecraft. It is expected to work for at least 7 years. Its service will further improve the country’s capability of relaying signals between satellites and ground control.

Exercise bike in space helps keeping Shenzhou 12 crew fit

07 July 2021
During a recent video sent from the core module of China's space station Tianhe (Harmony of Heavens), an exercise bike attracted lots of attention from viewers. "During an extended period in the space station, astronauts undergo a series of adaptive changes, such as changes in the cardiovascular system, muscle atrophy and bone loss," said Qin Younian, head of the space program for Shanxi Orient Fitness and Health Industrial Co, which developed the bike.

Some details about Chinese spacesuits, used inside and outside the CSS

08 July 2021
China's self-developed spacesuits have ensured the safety of taikonauts inside the space station core module Tianhe and while performing EVAs outside the module.
Intravehicular spacesuits, which are for astronauts to wear inside the spacecraft, ensure ventilation and heat dissipation of the taikonauts under normal circumstances and provide oxygen to ensure their safety once the spacecraft leaks. The extravehicular suit, like a small aircraft, provides safe and effective environmental protection, environmental control and life support for taikonauts when they work outside the spacecraft.
