Liu Boming and Tang Hongbo conducted the 1st EVA from the Tianhe module on 4 July 2021. Both have been outside by 11:02 BJT and worked in the open cosmos for 7 hours. Nie Haisheng stayed inside. Supported by Beijing Aerospace Control Centre in Beijing, the taikonauts verified the reliability and capability of hardware involved in extravehicular operation, demonstrated their adaptability and collaboration with the robotic arm, and examined the performance of their extravehicular suits. The operation laid a crucial foundation for the next spacewalks. It was the first Chinese spacewalk after the very first one 13 years ago in 2008.

China sent 5 satellites into planned orbits from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in northern Shanxi Province on 3 July.
The satellite Jilin-1 01B, Xingshidai-10 and three Jilin-1 Gaofen 03D satellites were launched by a CZ-2D rocket at 10:51 BJT.

Upon the centenary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Chinese astronauts Nie Haisheng, Liu Boming, and Tang Hongbo, all Party members, are busy at in-orbit construction of the country's space station. Nie joined the Party in 1986, Liu in 1990, and Tang in 1997.
China's 1st astronaut Yang Liwei, also a Party Member, once said, "like foreign astronauts having their beliefs, we believe in Communism, which is also a spiritual power. ... We do not pray in the way our foreign counterparts do, but the common belief has made us more united in space, where there is no national boundary, to accomplish our missions." China's manned space programme was approved by the CPC Central Committee in 1992.

The Fengyun 4B weather satellite, launched on 3 June, and currently going through its in-orbit testing phase has captured its first group of high definition pictures. The rapid-imaging device carried by the satellite is able to take pictures each minute that cover 4 million km2. The imaging range can reach the Indian Ocean to the West, the Pacific Ocean to the East and broader areas in Oceania, the China Meteorological Administration said.

A 20-strong team of scientists at Hong Kong PolyU's Department of Land Surveying and Geo-informatics made crucial contributions to the selection of Tianwen's landing site and to the determination of the spacecraft's exact location after landing, and consequently the successful landing. The team led by Prof. Wu Bo used innovative topographic mapping and geo-morphological analysis techniques as well as its experience. The team members also helped map and evaluate landing sites on the Moon for China's Chang'e 4 lander in 2019 and the Chang'e 5 lander last year.
