The China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, the municipality of Yantai, and the Shenzhen-based China International Marine Containers Group signed an agreement for the development of Haiyang into a home base for sea-based space launches and the development of production centres for carrier rockets, satellite equipment, data and software as well as sea-launch platforms.

Staff members celebrate as they finish testing a floating device in the maintenance of the reflector panels on the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) in Pingtang County, southwest China's Guizhou Province, 30 August 2019. Researchers with the China-based FAST, the world's largest single-dish radio telescope tested a balloon in the maintenance of the telescope's 4,450-panel reflector. The micro-G mechanism aims to help reduce the maintenance staff's body weight to a value within the reflector panels' range of durability using a helium-filled balloon 7.6 meters in diameter.

China will send a remote sensing satellite into orbit for polar climate and environment observation in September. The project was initiated by scientists from the Beijing Normal University and developed by Shenzhen Aerospace Dongfanghong Development Ltd. It will be operated by Chinese University Corporation for Polar Research. The satellite called "Ice Pathfinder" (Code: BNU-1), which weighs only 10 kg, is equipped with high-resolution cameras that can achieve full coverage of the Antarctic and Arctic in five days and strengthen monitoring of sea ice drifts and ice-shelf calving. In addition, it has an automatic identification system for vessels to navigate through parts or the entirety of the polar regions.

Two satellites for technological experiments were sent into space by a Kuaizhou-1A, or KZ-1A, carrier rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on 31 August. The rocket blasted off at 7:41 h BJT and sent the two satellites into their planned orbit. One of the newly launched satellites was developed by the Innovation Academy for Microsatellites of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and will be used for microgravity technology experiments.The other satellite, developed by commercial satellite manufacturer Spacety Co., Ltd. (Changsha) will be used to test solar sail technology.
