Seeking a greater role in Chinese projects, the University of Hong Kong is pumping HK$10 million (US$1.28 million) into building a new space research laboratory at University of Hong Kong Zhejiang Institute of Research and Innovation (HKU-ZIRI) near Hangzhou in Zhejiang province of China's mainland. It is also working with partners on a 50 million yuan (US$7.28 million) microsatellite there. The microsatellite is set for lift-off next year.

Two remote sensing satellites were successfully sent into space on 9 October from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China. The satellites, both part of the Yaogan-32 family, were launched by a Long March-2C rocket with an attached upper stage at 10:43 a.m. Beijing time. The satellites have entered their planned orbits and will be used for electromagnetic environment surveys and other related technology tests.

China's Tianqin satellite project has made breakthroughs in the key technologies to detect gravitational waves, the project's leader Luo Jun, a physicist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, told the audience at the Xiangshan Science Conference in Guangzhou. In-orbit verification can start as progress has been made on inertial sensing, laser interferometry, the drag-free control system and satellite platform.

Their static-dynamic presentations of modern weaponry systems and a new-generation launch vehicle rocket family will add to the depth of the China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition. The high-powered lineup promises further breakthroughs at the show's 12th edition from 6 to 11 November in Jinwan District, Zhuhai.
