Chinese rocket scientist’s resignation sparks public debate

Xi'an Aerospace Propulsion Institute applied for arbitration at a local labor dispute arbitration agency on 20 May in order to retain Zhang Xiaoping, a deputy director of rocket design in Xi'an, who moved to private company Landspace earlier this year. The reason the institute applied for an arbitration is that Zhang, who was involved in some national key programs, knows a lot of confidential information and should go through formalities before he quit to ensure that secrets are not released, according to rules.

Russia, China agree to go ahead with cooperation in rocket, engine manufacturing

Russia and China have signed a protocol on cooperation in the space rocket and engine manufacturing, as well as lunar exploration projects, the website of the Roscosmos corporation stated. The space cooperation sub-commission of the Russia-China commission for preparations for regular meetings of heads of government met on 28 September for the 19th working meeting, this time in Beijing.

Russia and China eye building joint lunar station

CEO of Russia’s state space corporation Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, said on Russia’s TV Channel One: "China is a serious partner. I don’t rule out that as soon as we agree the outlines of our lunar program with the Americans, it is our manned lunar program, the formation of a research station on Moon’s surface is likely to be carried out with our Chinese partners. They can be equal partners already in the coming years."

China launches Centispace-1-s1 satellite

China launched its Centispace-1-s1 satellite on a Kuaizhou-1A rocket from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China at 12:13 p.m. on 29 September. This is the second commercial launch by the Kuaizhou-1A rocket. The first launch in January 2017 sent three satellites into space. The Kuaizhou-1A was developed by a rocket technology company under the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC). It is a low-cost solid-fuel carrier rocket with high reliability and a short preparation period, designed to launch low-orbit satellites weighing under 300 kg.

China's private sector space firms to be included in national system

Two commercial rockets developed by Chinese private companies completed launch missions at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, Northwest China's Gansu Province, in early September, which experts said is a concrete measure toward implementing the strategy of military-civilian integration. It is the first time that domestic private aerospace companies have launched rockets at a national launch center since it opened in 1958.
"The launch of private commercial rockets from the center is a concrete embodiment of the commercialization of China's aerospace industry, demonstrating the future strategy of our country's space development," the Xinhua News Agency reported on Saturday, citing Jia Lide, director from a planning department under the center.
