Optical remote-sensing satellite Gaofen 9-05 launched

A Long March-2D carrier rocket launched a new optical remote-sensing satellite, the Gaofen 9-05, from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China, on 23 August 2020 at 10:27 h (Beijing Time). GF-9-05 has a resolution up to the sub-meter level. It will be mainly used for land surveys, city planning, land right confirmation, road network design, crop yield estimation and disaster prevention and mitigation. It will also provide information for the Belt and Road construction. A multifunctional test satellite and another satellite named Tiantuo-5 were also launched via the rocket.

iSpace raises a record sum in Series B financing

Commercials space company iSpace announced on 25 August a Series B round of financing over 1.2 billion RMB (174 million USD). This amount of money in a single round is a record for the Chinese commercial aerospace sector. The investment was led by Beijing Financial Street Capital Operation Centre. Other contributors are CICC Alpha, Taizhonghe Capital, Sequoia Capital China and some other investors.

Chinese names of 1,136 Mars craters added to the glossary of Mars terrain features

To facilitate scientific research and science popularization, the Chinese Astronomical Society (CAS) invited experts to translate the Mars terrain terms issued by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) into Mandarin. The translations were reviewed and approved by a special committee for astronomical terms affiliated to the CAS and the China National Committee for Terms in Sciences and Technologies.
After the Chinese Astronomical Society (CAS) released the Chinese names of 811 Mars terrain features already by the end of July, the translations of 1,136 Mars craters were added to the glossary of Astronomical Terms, users can find on the website of the National Astronomical Data Centre.

Chang'e 4 probe's 600 days on the Moon bring significant scientific gains

27 August 2020
The Yutu 2 rover has set a record by traveling 519.29 m during its 600 days of work on the far side of the Moon. The lander and the rover finished their work for the 21st lunar day and switched to the dormant mode for the lunar night on 25 August. The Queqiao relay satellite is in normal working condition. Scientists have carried out extensive research based on the data transferred by the scientific payloads on the rover and achieved positive results.
