Xichang set for 20 space launches in 2020

The Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in southwest China's Sichuan Province will host around 20 launch missions in 2020, including two satellites of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS). Established in 1970, the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre is one of three major space launch centers in China and the busiest one: 142 launches with 160 satellites took off from there. Currently, a new launch pad for next-generation rockets is under construction at the centre.

Long March 5 return-to-flight launch planned for 27 December

Jean Deville reports on his website "The China Aerospace Blog" that the long awaited Long March 5 return-to-flight launch is planned for 27 December. Also, in an interesting podcast format, he discusses with Blaine Curcio the Chinese space activities of the almost gone year 2019 and gives an outlook on the missions ahead of us. Better first hand knowledge and analysis about China's space sector is hard to find... ;-)

CBERS 4A launched - several secondary payloads on board including ETRSS-1

A new satellite, jointly developed by China and Brazil, was sent into space on Friday, pushing forward the aerospace cooperation between the two countries, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA). The China-Brazil Earth Resource Satellite-4A (CBERS-4A) was launched on a Long March-4B carrier rocket on 20 December at 11:22 BJT from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in north China's Shanxi Province. The same rocket put another eight satellites into orbit, including a wide-range multispectral remote-sensing microsatellite donated to Ethiopia.

Earth observation data for Mozambique

20 December 2019
China on 17 December handed over a high-resolution (10 m) cropland data tool to Mozambique. The data will help improve Mozambique’s ability to deal with emergencies such as drought, flooding and insect epidemics. The handover ceremony was held during the 4th Digital Belt and Road Conference in Shenzhen on on 17 December, organized by the Digital Belt and Road Program (DBAR) team of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
