Space Station rice breeding tests show promising results
30 August 2022
The seeds of Arabidopsis and rice, germinated in the life ecology experiment cabinet of the Wentian lab module and are now in good condition. Since the start of the experiment on 29 July, the Arabidopsis seedlings have grown several leaves, and rice seedlings of the tall variety have grown to a height of about 30 cm. The dwarf rice variety, dubbed Xiao Wei, grew up to around 5 cm. The aim is to grow the plants across a full life cycle to obtain space seeds. Plant growth in space faces problems such as delayed flowering time, low seed setting rate, and decreased seed quality, and only a few crops like rape, wheat, and peas have completed experiments in space to obtain seeds.

Preparations for 8th CCAF in full swing
30 August 2022
The 8th China-International Commercial Aerospace Forum - 8th CCAF - will be held as a hybrid conference on 14 and 15 September 2022. Along with the development of China's commercial aerospace industry, the forum has formed a serialised, industrialised and authoritative brand, created a high-end platform for discussions and exchanges in related fields such as government, enterprises, academia, capital, and others - effectively bringing together domestic and foreign businesses. This year's event is guided by the motto "Commercial Aerospace Empowering new Business and new Patterns Openness and Win-Win Contributing to a Shared Future for Mankind".

Astronomers obtain sky's large-field X-ray maps
31 August 2022
The Wide-field X-ray Telescope (WXT), launched on 27 July, obtained X-ray images and the energy spectra of many celestial bodies in the Milky Way and beyond. Chinese astronomers have released the first collection of large-field X-ray maps of the sky, captured by the Wide-field X-ray Telescope. The results show that a single glance can detect X-rays from multiple directions, including those from stellar black holes and neutron stars. The telescope is equipped with 36 micro-pore lobster-eye lenses and four large-array CMOS sensors and its field of view stretches to 340 degrees. It is an experimental module for the Einstein-Probe satellite, currently under development.

China's solar observation satellite Xihe
31 August 2022
On 30 August, CNSA held a ceremony in Beijing to make public the scientific and engineering achievements of the Xihe solar satellite mission. Xihe (Chinese H-Alpha Solar Explorer) breaks ground with new data has carried out spectral scanning and imaging of the sun's H-Alpha waveband and has recorded the dynamics of the solar activities in the star's photosphere and chromosphere. It could image almost 100 solar burst activities. The spacecraft has also obtained spectral lines of the sun's H-Alpha waveband, neutral silicon atoms and neutral iron atoms. These accomplishments are expected to extensively advance the research of the sun and solar system.
