UAV completes marine meteorological observation test

27 November 2021
China developed the Wing Loong-10 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for use in integrated marine meteorological observation. The first drone test flight was done on 27 November where the Wing Loong-10 collected data on cloud systems over the ocean, temperature and humidity profile distribution, surface wind fields, and other meteorological factors. The UAV operation was supported by space-based, marine-based, and shore-based observation equipment. Wing Loong-10 UAV was able to carry out a comprehensive, multi-factor, multi-dimensional, and high-resolution marine meteorological observation.

Chinese researchers develop protective material for spacecraft surface

01 December 2021
Chinese researchers have developed a new type of double-layer polyimide nanocomposite film, which can be applied on the external surfaces of spacecraft and protect the hardware from adverse conditions of low Earth orbit. The researchers from the University of Science and Technology of China generated a new polyimide-based nanocomposite film with greatly enhanced mechanical properties and atomic oxygen resistance by integrating mica nanosheets with polyimide into a unique double-layer nacre-inspired structure with a much higher density, according to their recent research article published in the journal Advanced Materials.

ESA Mars Express relays data from CNSA Zhurong rover

01 December 2021
In November, Mars Express carried out a series of experimental communication tests with the Zhurong rover. Mars Express successfully caught data sent up ‘in the blind’ by the rover and relayed them to Earth where they were forwarded to the Zhurong team in China. The experiments culminated in a successful test on 20 November.
