Guo Huadong wins International Science Council award

Guo Huadong, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and a researcher for radar remote sensing and digital earth science at the Aerospace Information Research Institute under CAS won the Science for Sustainability Award at the first International Science Council (ISC) Awards for his contribution to sustainable development goals. Guo was awarded the prize on 13 October for his pioneering research on big Earth data science and his contributions in support of the sustainable development goals.

Shenzhou-13 crew for space station mission named

The China Manned Space Agency CMSA announced at a press conference on 14 October that taikonauts Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu were nominated as crew for the Shenzhou 13 spaceflight mission. Zhai will be the commander. SZ-13 will be launched on 16 October at 00:23 BJT from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre.

Xihe solar exploration satellite launched

On 14 October at 18:51 BJT, China sent its first solar exploration satellite into space from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre. The satellite, which will conduct the first space exploration of solar Hα spectral imaging, was launched aboard a Long March 2D rocket and entered its planned orbit successfully.

China welcomes foreign astronauts to space station flights

Astronauts from foreign countries will participate in joint flights on board China's space station after its construction is completed, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) announced during the press conference for the Shenzhou 13 mission. "The construction of China's space station will provide a better platform for wider international cooperation, including joint astronaut flights," Lin Xiqiang, deputy director of the CMSA said.
