China's reusable spacecraft to be launched in 2020

China plans to launch its reusable spacecraft in 2020, according to a statement from China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. Unlike traditional one-off spacecraft, the new spacecraft will fly into the sky like an aircraft, said Chen Hongbo, a researcher from the corporation. The spacecraft can transport people or payload into the orbit and return to Earth.

New communications satellite company awaits approval

China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC) is considering the establishment of a satellite company to tap the space-based communications market. Tan Qianhong, Party Chief of China Space Sanjiang Group, a CASIC subsidiary in Hubei province, said Sanjiang has submitted a plan on the proposed satellite firm to CASIC and is waiting for approval. The new entity would focus mainly on the research, development and launch of small satellites that would operate in low orbit and provide narrowband communications service.

Roscosmos and CNSA sign space cooperation programme

Director General of Roscosmos, Igor Komarov and Tang Dengjie, Head of the China National Space Agency (CNSA) signed on 1 November in Beijing the awaited space cooperation programme. The activities comprise the areas of lunar and deep-space research, cooperation for joint spacecraft design, for electronic hardware and space materials, cooperation in the field of Earth observation and space debris.

China can become first country to build solar power station in space

China is expected to be the world's first country to build a practical solar power station in space, as long as it keeps investing in research and development, according to Li Ming, a research fellow from China Academy of Space Technology. "China's entered the top ranks in research of space solar power after decades of research which has significantly narrowed the gap with other leading countries," Li Ming said.
