CZ-7A launched test satellite

China launched its CZ-7A Y2 carrier rocket on 12 March at 1:51 BJT from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site. It sent an experimental satellite into the planned orbit. The satellite will be mainly used for in-orbit tests of new technologies including space environment monitoring.

Another space launch from and for China

On 13 March, the 4th group of China's Yaogan 31 remote sensing satellites were sent into space from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China at 10:19 BJT. The satellites were carried by a CZ-4C rocket and have entered their planned orbits. The satellites will be used for electromagnetic environment surveys and other related technology tests.

The target is a manned lunar landing

Wu Weiren, the Chief Designer of China's Lunar Exploration Programme CLEP confirmed that China has completed feasibility studies of the 4th phase of its lunar exploration project and is expected to build an international lunar research station on the Moon's south pole.
With respect to the Sino-Russian cooperation for a research station on the Moon, Wu said: "If the lunar research station project can be successfully implemented, China will not be far away from achieving manned landing on the Moon." He added that Chinese scientists and engineers are studying how to land on the Moon. It will be a long-term lunar stay for Chinese astronauts, not short-term, said Wu.
