Leading space scientists from Britain and China signed a partnership agreement during the UK-China Space Workshop on 6 September in Edinburgh which aims to promote and strengthen both sides' space education and space culture activities. Under the Memorandum of Understanding, a new virtual center will be established to lead space education and space culture activities between the two countries. The center will be led by Britain's National Space Academy and a consortium of Chinese laboratories. In the areas of culture and education programs, it will be supported by the University of Nottingham.

“Contacts in the Asia-Pacific Region are growing at a very fast pace. The region is continuously playing a more important role. Major plans are in store for the development of the Vostochny spaceport and the region overall,” said Igor Komarov, Chief Executive Officer of Roscosmos.
“We are cooperating very closely with China in three main areas. One of them is related to rocket engines and carrier vehicles. The second one comprises everything pertaining to the orbital segment. The third area, monitoring outer space from the position of its man-made contamination, has been put together this year. Space is an environment not only for spacecraft but for human beings also. The question arises regarding hazards posed by space debris. This is a very crucial challenge. About 18,000 space objects are in outer space and just 7% of them are functioning. The other ones are space garbage weighing nearly 6,000 tonnes. This problem has to be resolved. This is a common problem,” noted Yuriy Makarov, Director, Joint Department for Strategic Planning and State Space Programs, State Space Corporation Roscosmos.

Several photos show China's future Mars simulation base in Hongya (Red Cliff) region of Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Qinghai Province. About 400 million yuan (61 million U.S. dollars) are expected to invest in the Mars scientific research base and eco-tourism site. The red rock area in Qaidam basin in western Qinghai has been called the most "Martian" place on Earth, with its natural features, landscape and climate all similar to those on the red planet.

It is the quietest tourist site in China - phones, cameras and cars are not allowed. Even planes have been rerouted to avoid disturbance, but it still draws thousands of tourists. Since it began operating in September last year, the world’s largest radio telescope, in southwest China’s Guizhou Province, has received 240,000 tourists, local authorities said. All phones and cameras must be handed in if visitors want to enter the core area,” said local tour operator Liu Xingwu. Shi Bangze, Director of the county’s tourism bureau said that any increase in tourist numbers must not be allowed to interfere with scientific studies underway at FAST.
