China Mobile is buying colocation space ahead of mass scale Pan African expansion

Company vows “to meet the growing demands in the international telecommunications market” as it enters Africa. One of Asia’s largest telecommunications companies China Mobile International Limited (CMI) is to use African data centre operator Djibouti Data Center as it begins its expansion into the continent. Selecting Djibouti Data Center, CMI, the subsidiary of China Mobile Ltd, is the company’s latest move to facilitate its global network expansion, colocation and undersea fiber cable access services in east Africa. The data centre operator will support CMI to establish cable head access, cross-connect, and colocation facilities directly adjacent to Djibouti Telecom’s cable landing station.

BRICS nations vow to utilise space for peaceful purposes

India and four other BRICS nations today pledged to abide by the principle of utilising outer space for peaceful purposes: “We adhere to the principle of utilising outer space for peaceful purposes and emphasise the need to strengthen the international cooperation in space activities in order to use space technologies to respond to global climate change, environmental protection, disaster prevention and relief and other challenges faced by humankind,” the declaration said.

China's first Mars simulation base planned for science, ecotourism

Planners have mapped out a 400-million-Yuan (61 million U.S. dollars) development plan to turn a red rock basin in China into a Mars scientific research base and eco-tourism site. Liu Xiaoqun, from the Moon and deep-space exploration department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), said on 5 September that a planning meeting was held in Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Qinghai Province to determine the development of the Mars simulation base. "As China's only Mars science and recreation base, we hope it will focus on the scientific theme of space exploration," he said.

Russia, China Note Rapprochement of Positions in AeroSpace Cooperation

Representatives of Russia and China pointed out during a meeting in Russia's southwestern city of Volgograd the narrowing of the gap between positions of both countries in the cooperation in space, aviation and nuclear industries, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said. On 5 September, Rogozin met with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang in Volgograd to hold intergovernmental negotiations.
