Tiangong 2 re-entered on 19 July at 21:06 h Beijing time

A small amount of the spacecraft's debris fell into the predetermined safe sea area in the South Pacific, according to China Manned Space Agency (CMSA).
"Although Tiangong 2 had been in operation nearly one year longer than its designed lifespan, its platform and payloads functioned stably and soundly, and the propellant it carried was still sufficient to support its flight in orbit for another several years," Zhou Jianping, Chief Designer of China's manned space programme said.

CNN reviews the progress China has made during the last decades. The report looks at the advancement of China's lunar exploration programme and the emerge of its commercial space sector. And it puts the question on the table where will the development lead to. Blaine Curcio, founder of Hong Kong-based space industry research firm Orbital Gateway Consulting tells CNN: "The implication is that, if they keep getting better at scale, they are probably going to be come the leading power at some point. It's just a matter of time."
