The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) released a big data sharing platform on 15 January, providing scientists and officials worldwide with information about the Earth. The platform will provide global users with systematic, diversified and standardised big data through a data, computing and service integrated information sharing system.

The Gamma-ray Burst (GRB) polarimeter POLAR on China's Tiangong 2 space laboratory has completed its high-sensitivity measurement of GRBs and fulfilled all of its research objectives, according to China Manned Space Engineering Office on 15 January.

The idea of a biological payload was selected from 257 suggestions collected from high school and college students in 2016. This can also serve as a proof that the original purpose of the payload was for promotion of science. The plant in the mini ecosystem on Chang'e 4 died of extreme cold as the Moon's far side turned away from the Sun. "During the 212.75 hours from power-on to power-off, the payload worked well. Some of the results exceeded our expectations," explained Xie Gengxin, the payload's designer and dean of Chongqing University's Institute of Advanced Technology.

Wu Weiren, Chief Scientist of China’s lunar programme, said NASA scientists had asked permission to use China’s Chang’e 4 spacecraft and relay satellite to help them plan an U.S.-American mission to the far side of the Moon. The U.S. experts made the request at an international conference a few years ago, state broadcaster CCTV reported. The American scientists had asked China to extend the Queqiao relay satellite’s lifespan and allow an American beacon device to be placed on Chang’e 4, saying it would help the US side plan its own lunar landing strategy, Wu said.
