China's cargo spacecraft completes third in-orbit refueling

China's Tianzhou 1 cargo spacecraft and Tiangong 2 space lab completed their third and last in-orbit refueling on 16 September at 20:17 h. The third refueling, lasting about three days, confirmed the technical results from the second refueling.

Nan Rendong, Chief Scientist with the world's largest radio telescope project, died at the night of 15 September at the age of 72, according to the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. As the founding father of the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST), Nan had been in charge of the project since 1994, and most of the project's core members were Nan's students.

China's BeiDou-3 satellites get new chips

A new chip developed by Shenzhen-based Allystar Technology for the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) was unveiled on 16 September by the Global Navigation Satellite System and Location Based Service (GNSS & LBS) Association of China (GLAC). The chip supports the new generation of BeiDou-3 satellites for high-precision navigation and positioning. The positioning accuracy of the chip reaches the sub-meter level without ground-based augmentation.

Space official to take charge of Chinese military equipment development programme

Lieutenant General Li Shangfu, 59, a senior military official on China’s space project, had taken over the post to head China’s military equipment development programme. He follows General Zhang Youxia who had been in charge of China’s lunar exploration and manned space project.
