Chinese female taikonaut Wang Yaping will give a lesson while in orbit during the Shenzhou 13 mission. It will be the 2nd time for the taikonaut to broadcast a live lecture in space. Wang earned the title of China's first space teacher after delivering a televised science lecture to an audience of over 60 million schoolchildren during the Shenzhou 10 space mission in June 2013.
According to Lin, Wang will carry out extravehicular activities during the Shenzhou 13 mission, a 6-month stay in space. It will make her the first Chinese woman to leave footprints in the universe.

Astronauts from foreign countries will participate in joint flights on board China's space station after its construction is completed, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) announced during the press conference for the Shenzhou 13 mission. "The construction of China's space station will provide a better platform for wider international cooperation, including joint astronaut flights," Lin Xiqiang, deputy director of the CMSA said.

On 14 October at 18:51 BJT, China sent its first solar exploration satellite into space from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre. The satellite, which will conduct the first space exploration of solar Hα spectral imaging, was launched aboard a Long March 2D rocket and entered its planned orbit successfully.

Guo Huadong, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and a researcher for radar remote sensing and digital earth science at the Aerospace Information Research Institute under CAS won the Science for Sustainability Award at the first International Science Council (ISC) Awards for his contribution to sustainable development goals. Guo was awarded the prize on 13 October for his pioneering research on big Earth data science and his contributions in support of the sustainable development goals.

The China Manned Space Agency CMSA announced at a press conference on 14 October that taikonauts Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu were nominated as crew for the Shenzhou 13 spaceflight mission. Zhai will be the commander.  SZ-13 will be launched on 16 October at 00:23 BJT from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre.

The regional finals of the Space Universities CubeSat Challenge, an international contest for mini satellites and payloads made by university students, concluded on 11 October in Beijing. 3 teams from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing Institute of Technology and Dalian University of Technology were champions at the finals, which included participation by 36 teams from Chinese universities.
