Data relay satellite Tianlian 2-01 launched

China sent a new data relay satellite into orbit from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province late night on 31 March.
The Tianlian 2-01 satellite was launched at 23:51 h Beijing Time by a Long March-3B carrier rocket. As the first satellite to constitute China's second-generation data relay satellite network, the Tianlian 2-01 will provide data relay, measurement and control, transmission services for manned spacecraft, satellites, carrier rockets and other non-spacecraft users.

China-Arab forum on BeiDou Navigation Satellite System cooperation

01 April 2019
The second forum on BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) cooperation between China and Arab countries started in the Tunisian capital of Tunis on 1 April. The forum is an important cooperation mechanism and multilateral platform for deepening cooperation in satellite navigation and promotion of BDS application in the Arab region. Focusing on the theme of "Cooperation, Application, and Service", the Chinese and Arab government officials, representatives of regional organisations, aerospace and satellite application departments, relevant research institutes, universities, and enterprises have been invited to the forum.

China enforces electromagnetic ban around FAST telescope

01 April 2019
A ban on radio equipment and electromagnetic gadgets went into effect on 1 April in the core silence zone of the world's largest telescope located in southwest China's Guizhou Province. Covering a wide range of electronic equipment from phones, digital cameras, and smart wearable devices, to tablets, speakers and drones, the ban is part of a newly revised regulation to keep the noise down and prevent human activities from affecting the telescope, known as the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST).

China, Arab states eye closer cooperation on satellite navigation to build "Space Silk Road"

Chinese and Arab officials and experts on 01 April envisioned building a "Space Silk Road" through closer cooperation on wider application of China's indigenously made BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) in the Middle East. Speaking at the second China-Arab States BDS Cooperation Forum held in the Tunisian capital Tunis, the officials and experts agreed that increased application of the BDS in the region could elevate the China-Arab strategic cooperation to a higher level to benefit both sides.
