China launches experimental satellite for broadband communication

China launched a tech-experimental satellite as part of the Hongyun Project, a low-orbit broadband communication satellite system on the morning of 22 December. A Long March 11 rocket carrying the experimental satellite blasted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China at 7:51 h. It successfully entered its preset orbit. It was also the first satellite of the Hongyun Project. The successful launch signifies the substantial progress of China in mapping the low-orbit broadband communication satellite system, said developer China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC).

China successfully launched the No. 3 telecommunication technology test satellite on 25 December at 0:53 h Beijing Time by a Long March-3C carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province. The satellite was developed and produced by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. It was the 296th Long March rocket mission.

China's BeiDou navigation system starts global service

China's BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) has started to provide global service, said BDS Spokesperson Ran Chengqi on 25 December. At a press conference of the State Council Information Office, Ran said the construction of the BDS-3 primary system had been completed. "This signifies that BDS has officially entered the global era as the BDS expands from a regional system to a global navigation system," Ran said. "From now on, no matter where you go, BDS will always be with you," said Ran.
