China launches new marine satellit

07 September 2018
China sent a new marine satellite into orbit on 7 September to help improve understanding of maritime waters and climate change. A Long March-2C rocket carrying the HY-1C satellite took off at 11:15 a.m. from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China's Shanxi Province. The satellite HY-1C will help monitor ocean color and water temperatures, providing basic data for research on the global oceanic environment, according to the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense.

OneSpace suborbital launch as seen from space by Jilin-1 satellite

08 September 2018
A video sequence emerged which shows the launch of OneSpace OS-X1 suborbital rocket on 7 September, at 12:10 p.m., from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre. The video reportedly is taken by the cameras of Jilin-1 satellite. At this moment, it is not clear who has released the video. However, the view is spectacular: watch on youtube.

Irish OCE Technology gets financial support from Chinese Zhuhai Orbita

Irish company OCE Technology has secured investment of €200,000 from Chinese stockmarket-listed Zhuhai Orbita Aerospace Science and Technology in return for a small share in OCE.
Zhuhai Orbita supplies OCE with components and OCE supplies parts to the Chinese space programme. Tony Cahill, Vice-President sales at OCE, said the investment will help spur its next stage of growth, by launching in the U.S. The firm is in “early stage” talks with SpaceX and other private companies in the US.

Chinese scientists use domestic satellite to conduct light pollution research

Scientists from the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth of the CAS assessed the potential of using Luojia-1 nighttime light imaging to measure artificial light pollution. Compared with ground-based measurements, nighttime light remote sensing is able to acquire larger-scale and higher quantities of artificial lighting data. The scientists found that Luojia-1 can detect a higher dynamic range and capture the finer spatial details of artificial nighttime light.
