First dwarf planet in solar system named after Chinese mythical figure

2007OR10, the largest unnamed planet in the solar system has recently been named after the Chinese water god Gonggong by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). This is the first and only dwarf planet in the solar system that has a Chinese name, according to the National Astronomical Observatories under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. 2007OR10 was discovered in 2007 by three astronomers on the far edge of the solar system, outside Neptune's orbit. It is one of the reddest celestial bodies found in the Kuiper Belt in the solar system, and it rotates around the sun in an elliptical orbit.

Countdown to BDS satellite launch missions resumed amid outbreak

Chinese scientists and engineers working on the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) have resumed work in launch preparation and will soon meet their objective of establishing a global network of BDS satellites. As planned, China is to launch two more BDS-3 satellites in March and May to complete the global network.

Mini-program for marine satellite data starts operation on WeChat

China has launched a WeChat mini-program to provide the public with more easy access to marine satellite data, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources. The mini-program is developed by the National Satellite Ocean Application Service and allows users to obtain daily information on sea surface wind fields around the world. Users can search for the distribution of typhoons or cyclones in a certain sea area and check the trend over the past five days. The mini-program is supported by data generated by multiple satellites such as the China-France Oceanography Satellite and China's HY-2 satellites.

China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group is investing in space

GeeSpace, a subsidiary of Geely Technology Group, plans to invest 2.27 billion RMB (326 million USD) in a satellite manufacturing facility in Taizhou with an annual production capacity of 500 satellites. Still this year it is planned to launch a pair of satellites for the validation of relevant technologies and communications systems for the planned commercial LEO satellite constellation. Geely, one of most prominent China’s indigenous auto brands, has stretched its reaches to various high-tech fields beyond automobile. Founded in 2018, GeeSpace focuses on the R&D of satellite communications system, electronic products, and technologies about communications and data processing.
