Long March-5B rocket to make maiden flight in first half of 2020

China's Long March-5B carrier rocket has passed testing and examination before leaving the factory and is expected to make its maiden flight in the first half of 2020, according to the China Manned Space Agency. The examinations, conducted by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, showed that the rocket has met the requirements for flight.

China successfully verifies drag-free satellite control technology

China recently completed an in-flight verification for satellite drag-free control technology, marking a step forward in the country's space-based gravitational wave detection programme. State-owned China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) confirmed the successful verification with the Tianqin-1, the country's first satellite for space-based gravitational wave detection. Drag-free control technology blocks external forces that affect a satellite, excluding gravity, so it can remain static and stable, the report said, noting that forces need to be canceled including sunlight pressure and atmospheric drag.

Satellite Navigation - China's international open-access journal on satellite navigation launched

A new English publication offering scientific research in the field of satellite navigation has just been launched by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Springer Nature. The peer-reviewed academic journal "Satellite Navigation" is online in an open-access format, according to the joint sponsor Aerospace Information Research Institute of the CAS. The journal aims to report new results or progress on the theoretical techniques and applications of satellite navigation.

YW-3 and YW-7 space-tracking vessels back from missions

22 January 2020
Space-tracking ship Yuanwang 3 and Yuanwang 7 returned to the port of the China Satellite Maritime Tracking and Controlling Department after completing three monitoring missions. So far, all four space-tracking ships in service, including Yuanwang 5 and Yuanwang 6, have made it back to China.
